ABSTRACT

The implications of visible light communication (VLC) have been widely researched recently, and different approaches towards using this new technology are being discovered daily. Nevertheless, high-precision positioning systems using VLC are yet to be developed in an efficient and stable manner. Using VLC, an indoor positioning system can be designed that can pinpoint devices at a functionality that surpasses that of currently used commercial systems such as Bluetooth (BT) or wireless local area network (WLAN). Using multiple LED sources, a photodetector, and the relatively simple concepts of signal strength and correlation, a VLC positioning system with one receiver is to be introduced within a relatively small area.
